Best Season for Bhutan Family Tour

Bhutan is a year-round destination, but certain seasons offer especially pleasant weather and ideal conditions for family travel. The best time to visit is during spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). During spring, valleys are covered in blooming flowers, skies are clear, and the temperature is mild—perfect for sightseeing, village walks, and outdoor activities with children. Autumn brings crisp mountain air, vibrant festivals, and breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks.

Winter (December–February) is also suitable for families who enjoy peaceful travel, as the days are sunny and crowd-free. While mornings can be chilly, especially in Gangtey and higher altitudes, the landscapes become exceptionally beautiful. Summer (June–August) offers lush greenery, but occasional rains may limit outdoor time—though the season is ideal for families seeking privacy and budget-friendly travel options.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Paro Arrival & Sightseeing

When you arrive, our agent will greet you and help you check into your hotel. You will see the Rinpung Dzong, commonly known as the “fortress of the heap of jewels,” if your flight occurs in the morning. Its history is long and fascinating. The courtyard of the Rinpung Dzong is paved with wooden galleries that display beautiful murals illustrating Buddhist stories. The oldest temple in the country, Kyichu Lhakhang, was built in the eighth century by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. You will visit it after that. Later in the day, you can stroll through Paro Town. Meeting new people and taking a stroll through the market will be enjoyable. Stay the night in a hotel in Paro.

Day 2 : Thimphu City Day Tour

When you finish breakfast, you’ll drive to Thimphu. In Thimphu, two noteworthy locations are the Folk Heritage Museum and the School of Arts and Crafts. On your way to see the massive Buddha statue in the afternoon, continue on to Kuenselphodrang, which overlooks the Thimphu Valley. This 169-foot bronze statue of Buddha is supposedly the largest in the world. Spend the evening at Tashichhodzong, a magnificent medieval fortress-monastery. The majority of government offices are located there, as well as the Kings’ Throne Room. Day 3 : Thimphu – Punakha

Take a morning drive to Punakha, stopping traveling to the 3,100-meter-high Dochu La Pass for tea. The most spectacular view of the Himalayan high peaks may be seen from the pass, which is identified by prayer flags and Bhutanese Chortens on clear days. After making a break at Metshina Village, continue walking for 20 minutes across the rice fields to arrive at Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known as the Divine Madman. You could, if you like, receive a particular fertility blessing from a wooden phallus. Once here, you should see the Punakha Dzong, which is beautifully situated between the male and female rivers, resembling an anchored ship. Have a night at a hotel in Punakha. The Khamsum Yulley The Namgyal Temple

Day 4 : Village Walk in Punakha and Evening Drive to Gangtey

Today you have a hike scheduled in the village. The longest suspension bridge in Bhutan connects the community. As you cross the suspension bridge, a tiny town will come into view. Look at the community’s farmhouse, lifestyle, and architecture. Lunch at farmhouses with Bhutanese butter tea and local wine called “ara” After lunch, you will journey to Gangtey, the winter home of the black-necked cranes, via dense woods of oak and rhododendron. From Wangdue, the road climbs steeply to Lawal Pass, 3 km from Pele La, the entry point into central Bhutan. Just a little way downhill from Lawal Chorten is Gangtey hamlet, from whence you can see the magnificent Black Mountain range. Talk with the monks who are temporarily studying at the Gangtey Goenpa during your visit. Stay the night at a hotel in Gangtey.

Day 5 : Gangtey – Punakha

In the morning, you will hike through the Gangtey Valley to see the nearby settlements. Hiking pathways, pine trees, high-altitude dwarf bamboo, and an exceptional wood-carved farmhouse with artwork surround the valley. You can visit a few farmhouses to witness their way of life. Another option is to visit the Nature Information Center, which features informative displays on cranes and the valley’s environment. Drive to Punakha thereafter. Spend the night in a Punakha hotel.

Day 6 : Punakha – Paro

After breakfast, return to Paro. You’re going to Thimphu for lunch. After lunch, head to the popular Weekend Market, the largest vegetable market in the country. You get to observe the wide variety of goods that are available across the country, including an almost limitless supply of fruits, fresh cheese, and fiery peppers. Furthermore, a significant portion of the stalls are dedicated to selling handicrafts and home items made in Bhutan. This is a terrific opportunity to snap photos and engage with the people who have come from the surrounding villages to sell their agricultural food, so keep your camera handy. Drive to Paro and spend the night at the hotel.

Day 7 : Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (B)

This morning, we enjoy a short journey to Taktsang Goemba, also called Tiger’s Nest Monastery, which is the most famous monastery in Bhutan. Rising to a height of 10,400 feet and perched on a steep cliff around 3,000 feet above the Paro Valley, the monastery is immensely spectacular. Lunch is served in the Cafeteria Restaurant, which is located about halfway up the mountain. After an exhilarating encounter, you will hike down to the valley’s bottom. What a fantastic way to wrap up your trip to Bhutan! Stay the night at the accommodation.

Day 8 : Departure

It’s time to part ways now. Before being escorted to the airport for a journey back home, enjoy breakfast and the morning at your leisure. The journey has come to a conclusion. We really hope you had a great time on your family’s Bhutan visit and hope to have the opportunity to help you again soon.
